(WASHINGTON DC) - SMF met with Pakistani Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and delivered a letter addressed to Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. SMF addressed the ongoing unrest and attacks in Parachinar, where Shia communities face persistent threats. The recent violence, which claimed many lives, illustrates the urgent need for proper security measures and support programs. This situation formed the central topic of the meeting with the ambassador, who heard concerns about immediate protections, victum assistance, and consideratinon of sectarian patterns of violence. The focus remained on seeking direct steps to restore calm and safeguard rights.
SMF’s letter detailed persistent security and humanitarian problems faced by Shia communities. It outlined specific measures to strengthen protections, restore blocked routes, and support families in affected areas. It stressed the need for open travel corridors and proper relief efforts. It called for fair investigations into recent attacks and for holding those responsible accountable. It urged sustained cooperation with community leaders to calm tensions.
“SMF appreciates this time with the ambassador,” said Rahat Husain, SMF’s Executive Director. “This direct discussion gave us a chance to present the facts. We hope these points shape the next steps taken by Pakistan’s leadership.”
The meeting included representatives Faqir Naqvi, Waseem Naqvi (Imam Ali Center), Mustafa Akwand (Shia Rights Watch), Maulana Sulaiman Hasan (Imam al-Asr Masjid), and Haider Zaidi (Muhammadia Center). The ambassador pledged to advance these concerns to high-level officials in Pakistan.
SMF also reached out to the U.S. administration. It asked for diplomatic pressure on Pakistan to adopt meaningful reforms. SMF will continue this work, pressing for long-term solutions that provide a sense of security for those affected.
