First of its kind - Muharram in DC Majalis series

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 18, 2023 - The Shia Muslim Foundation (SMF),the Universal Muslim Association of America (UMAA), Center DC, and Muharram in DC are delighted to announce that Sheikh Hanif Mohammed will be delivering a series of majlis in Washington D.C., starting on Thursday, July 20, 2023. The majlis, a sacred assembly for remembering the martyrdom of Imam Husain (AS), will take place at Center DC, located at 1426 9th ST NW, Washington, D.C. 20001. Each session will begin at 7 pm.


The lecture series will illuminate the rich history and teachings of Imam Husain (AS), the revered grandson of Prophet Muhammad, and his profound impact on Islam. The stand taken by Imam Husain (AS) in Karbala, his unwavering commitment to justice and righteousness, and his ultimate sacrifice are seminal to the faith, especially to Shia Muslims.


Holding these lectures in Washington D.C., the nation's capital, is significant. It's an opportunity to engage a diverse audience, promote dialogue, and increase understanding of the values that Imam Husain (AS) stood for, which are deeply relevant today. In a world where social justice issues are at the forefront, his timeless message of standing against oppression resonates strongly.


DC Muharram, SMF, UMAA, and Center DC are sponsoring this important series, but additional donations are still needed to support this effort. We invite individuals, families, and organizations who believe in promoting understanding and fostering interfaith dialogue to donate generously.
